Hangzhou, China - Premium spirits brand Gin 1689 has officially launched in China, entering the market through Tmall, the leading business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce platform operated by Alibaba Group.
Following its debut on Tmall, Gin 1689 plans to expand into additional B2C channels, brick-and-mortar retail outlets, and the hospitality sector across the country.
“Launching Gin 1689 in China marks a major milestone for our brand, making our authentic gins—crafted from a 300-year-old recipe—available to a massive new market,” said founder Alexander Janssens.
“White spirits in general, and gin in particular, are experiencing strong growth in China,” Janssens added. “We are proud to offer Gin 1689 to China’s increasingly gin-savvy consumers.”
This market entry enhances Gin 1689’s footprint in the global spirits market and reinforces its strategic focus on expanding across Asia. The brand already maintains a strong regional presence in South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Earlier this year, the Amsterdam-based brand introduced its newest expression, 1689 Dutch Orange Gin, distilled with fresh oranges. The distillery's complete portfolio—including Dutch Dry, Dutch Pink, and Dutch Orange—is now available in 50 ml, 500 ml, and 700 ml bottle sizes.
